No. 18 women's tennis tops Whittier 7-2 in home-opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team advanced its record to 3-0 Friday defeating Whittier College 7-2 at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club. The No. 18 Panthers' five singles and two doubles wins established a strong start in their home opener after defeating Caltech and Cal Lutheran on the road.

No. 2 doubles duo Danielle Kaiden and Kelley Klebenow shut out the Poets  8-0, after Chapman dropped its No. 1 doubles match 8-4 to Liliana Serylo and Chloe Dredge. Freshman Sophia Duong and senior Cassady Sirois partnered for the first time this season and won 8-5, giving Chapman a one-match lead heading into singles play. 

In the Panthers' No. 1 singles match Duong dropped a three-set match against Serylo (2-6, 7-5, 6-4). Chapman's No.2 – No. 6 players each won their matches in decisive fashion. With the singles victory, junior Genna Ford now has a team-best 5-1 record while Boyer is 3-1. Sirois won her match 6-3, 6-1 and remains undeafeated with a 3-0 record.

The Panthers face Brandeis (Mass.) University for their next match on the Chapman tennis courts Thursday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
