Women's volleyball secures second at-home sweep

ORANGE, Calif. - Chapman women's volleyball (4-7(2-1)) remains undefeated at home after a sweep of the La Verne Leopards (4-6 (0-3)). Chapman went 25-13, 25-22, and 25-20 to secure the victory. 

Jessie Lumsden tallied 10 kills and 11 digs alongside classmate Sophie Srivastava who totaled 12 kills, 31 assists, and nine digs, just one shy of a triple-double. 

The Panthers took an early lead over the Leopards and were up by 10 points for the majority of the first set. The Leopards inched their way back in the second, taking their first lead over the Panthers early on. 

The score remained tight until the end of the second set when Srivastava and freshman Maddie Dowdall struck down on the Leopards after a Lumsden service ace. A La Verne attack error granted Chapman the 25-22 win. 

The Panthers dominated the majority of the third set, Natalie Spencer tallied up the kills for Chapman to pull ahead. Spencer totaled nine kills on the day. The Leopards crept back towards the end after executing two service aces followed by a Chapman attack error. Lumsden ended the set 25-20 with a kill. 

The Panthers hit the road to face Cal Lutheran on Tues., Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the fourth SCIAC match of the season.
