Eight water polo players earn academic awards, team GPA ranks fifth

Eight members of the Chapman University women’s water polo team have been recognized as All-Academic award winners by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for the 2012 season. For the second consecutive year, the Panthers rank No. 5 in the nation in team grade-point average with a 3.41 mark.

Other than the score being tied 1-1 briefly in the first quarter, the Chapman University women’s water polo team trailed throughout, losing 10-5 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center. The Panthers now need two wins in their last five games to secure their first winning season since 2004 when the team went 17-13 in Coach Ploessel’s first season.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team scored six unanswered goals over the final 6:40 in the game to defeat visiting Caltech 15-6 at the Allred Olympic Pool on Saturday morning. The win gives the Panthers their first three-game winning streak of the season and Chapman has now won five of its last six games.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that the Chapman University women’s water polo team allowed a goal, as it defeated Connecticut College 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center. Four goals allowed is Chapman’s best defensive performance since defeating Caltech 18-4 last season.
George Washington shuts door on Chapman in fourth quarter

The Chapman University women’s water polo team suffered a 13-8 loss to visiting George Washington University on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center. This was the Panthers’ first time playing the Colonials since 2009, when the Panthers lost 14-7.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team won a slugfest 22-13 against the University of Utah club team on Friday afternoon at the Allred Olympic Pool. The Panthers’ 22 goals equal their season-high as the two teams combined for 35 scores in the game.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team will play in the Claremont Convergence tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 in Claremont, Calif. In the tournament, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the Panthers will face two of the top-three teams in the latest Division III poll. This week the Panthers climbed two spots to No. 6 in the country.

For the second-consecutive day, the Chapman University women’s water polo team split a pair of games at the Chapman Tournament. On Sunday at the Allred Aquatics Center, Chapman defeated Gannon University 12-11 and then lost afternoon game 11-8 to La Verne.
