Mirro paces women's cross country at season-opening meet

BREA, Calif. – The Chapman University women's cross country team took second place in the Mark Covert Invitational Women's Open 5k to begin the 2021 season. Junior Maddie Mirro paced the Panther runners finishing in second individually.

Mirro finished just a second and half behind the event winner with a 19:39.9 in the 5k race. Junior Katie Hansen took sixth with a 19:57.7, which was a 5K personal-best. Freshman Lizbeth Ramirez made her debut with a ninth-place finish, rounding three Panthers in the top-10 and coming in at 20:07.8.

Annika Carlson as the next Panther finisher in 15th at 20:31. Sophomore Grace Coleman took 32nd overall while freshman Kendall Clark and sophomore Summer Solomon rounded out the Panthers team effort in 39th and 53rd.

As a team, Chapman took second out of seven teams competing in the open race, compiling 58 points.

Chapman heads to the Biola Invitational on Friday for its next meet.
