Chapman Athletics announces staff additions for 2012-13

ORANGE, Calif. – Effective August 1, Chapman University Athletics has added some new and familiar faces to its coaching staff for the 2012-13 school year. Most notably, the Panthers have retained women’s lacrosse head coach Brian Eisenberg ’99 to lead the program into its first year of varsity status and play at the NCAA Division III and SCIAC levels.

Eisenberg has led the Panther women as a club program the past four seasons with great success, including guiding the team to the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) Division II national championship in 2011 with an undefeated 17-0 record. A former Chapman two-sport athlete (soccer and lacrosse), Eisenberg compiled a club coaching record of 44-17 and coached four All-Americans.

Another familiar face, Jackie Mae Deese ’09, has been officially added to the men’s and women’s swimming coaching staff after serving as a volunteer coach for the past three years. Deese, formerly Jackie Vigeant, served as team captain for the Panthers from 2008-09 while swimming the freestyle. Deese’s position was added as part of Chapman’s men’s swimming program transitioning to varsity status to compete in the SCIAC.

Chapman has added three new assistants to its football coaching staff, including Casey Shine who becomes the Panthers’ recruiting coordinator. Shine spent the past nine seasons at Santa Ana College where he was promoted to offensive coordinator. Besides recruiting, his coaching duties include offensive line and tight ends this season. Ollie Lynch (defensive backs) and Ryan McMahon (video coordinator) have also been hired to the football staff.

The addition of Brett Halvaks as assistant cross country/track and field coach will help bolster those programs heading into SCIAC competition for the first time this year. Halvaks is a 2012 graduate of Cal Lutheran University where he ran cross country and track from 2008-12 While at Cal Lu, Halvaks also has served as the SCIAC representative on the NCAA’s Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
