Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.
McGee signs with Gary Southshore Railcats

The SCIAC Pitcher of the Year and recent Chapman University grad Travis McGee has signed a professional contract to continue his baseball career with the Gary Southshore Railcats of the American Association (Independent League). The right-hander has already reported to the team and pitched in his first game on June 11.
Carbajal earns All-America honors from D3Baseball.com

Chapman University senior Andrew Carbajal has been rewarded for his outstanding performance this season with All-SCIAC and All-Region recognition. Now he can add All-America to his resume. The senior outfielder and Panthers’ leadoff man has been named to the D3Baseball.com All-America team, earning Honorable Mention for 2014.
ABCA tabs six Panthers to All-Region baseball teams

Six Chapman University baseball players have been selected to the All-West Region team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) for the 2014 season. Senior OF Andrew Carbajal was the only Panther selected to the first team, while senior OF Connor Battaglia earned his first regional Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Less than two weeks after the Chapman University baseball team led the SCIAC with six All-Conference nods, the Panthers led the West Region with five All-Region selections, as selected by D3Baseball.com. Not bad for a team that was left out of the NCAA Division III playoffs after placing second in the SCIAC this season.

The Chapman men’s baseball team saw a conference-leading six players receive All-SCIAC honors following an outstanding bounce-back season in which the Panthers finished second in the standings with a 30-13 record (21-8 in SCIAC) and in line for an NCAA postseason berth.
Cal Lu beats Chapman for second straight SCIAC title

As it did during the regular season, the Cal Lutheran University baseball team rose above all comers in the conference, defeating Chapman University in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament finals 7-2 to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs at Ullman Stadium on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Panthers must wait hopefully for an at-large bid to the Regional Tournament when the NCAA announces its selections on May 12.

The Chapman University baseball team survived and advanced to SCIAC championship Sunday after losing to top seed Cal Lutheran University 6-2 and then beating No. 3 seed Whittier College 14-4 on Saturday at Ullman Stadium. The Panthers will need to win two games on Sunday against the SCIAC Tournament unbeaten Kingsmen in order to earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Behind an outstanding pitching effort from senior RHP Kevin Osaki, the Chapman University baseball team edged out visiting Whittier College 2-1 in the first round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Friday afternoon at Hart Park. The No. 2-seeded Panthers will travel to Thousand Oaks to face host and top seed Cal Lutheran University on Saturday at noon in a winner’s bracket game.
Saatzer named to Academic All-District baseball team

Chapman University senior Mark Saatzer has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The first baseman earned the award for the first time in his career thanks to an outstanding season on the field and in the classroom.

The Chapman University baseball team completed the three-game sweep of visiting University of Dallas, defeating the Crusaders 10-0 in a seven-inning “run rule” victory at Hart Park on Sunday. The Panthers won their fourth straight behind a nine-run first inning, and a stellar pitching performance by senior RHP Travis McGee.
