Lazare becomes first Panther named to men's golf All-SCIAC team

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Lyon Lazare capped off a memorable season with a strong showing at the SCIAC Championships, securing his selection to the 2013 Men’s Golf All-SCIAC second team. One of Chapman University’s top golfers, Lazare placed eighth overall in the tournament en route to becoming the first Panther to earn men’s golf All-SCIAC honors.

BEAUMONT, Calif.-- Inconsistency plagued the Chapman University men’s golf team in its first SCIAC championship over the weekend at Oak Valley Golf Club. The team ended the three-day conference tournament in fifth place out of eight schools.

ORANGE, Calif. - While the rest of campus begins preparations for final exams, Chapman University athletes will be tested early as they vie for SCIAC Championships in their respective postseason tournaments. In their first season of postseason eligibility, the following spring sports will look to add their names to join the women’s soccer team and swimmer Julie Case on the short list of Panther SCIAC Champions.

Playing on its home course for the first time this season, the Chapman University men’s golf completed the season sweep over visiting Cal Lutheran, defeating the Kingsmen on the links by one stroke, 311-312 at Tustin Ranch Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chapman University men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the SCIAC No. 1 tournament at Empire Lakes Golf Course in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday. The Panthers posted a score of 303, finishing 10 shots back of first-place La Verne.

The Chapman University men’s golf team started the 2013 season off with a win on Monday afternoon, defeating SCIAC rivals Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier College with a combined score of 324 (top four scores) at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Via Verde Country Club.
