The four-year reign of Chapman University women's tennis standouts Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox came to an end on Friday afternoon as the pair lost in the first round of NCAA Division III doubles championships at the Pauley Tennis Complex in Claremont.

The NCAA has released the draws for the Division III Women’s Tennis national singles and doubles championships brackets as the tournaments begin on Friday at the Pauley Tennis Complex hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, Calif.

The season came to an end for the Chapman University women’s tennis team with a 5-2 loss to No. 12-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the second round of the NCAA Division III West Regionals at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on Friday. The host Athenas advance to the regional finals to face defending West Region champs Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday.

Chapman cruises to first round win, next faces No. 12 Claremont

The Chapman University women’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III West Regionals with a 5-0 win over Grinnell College (Iowa) on Thursday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Panthers will play face host Claremont on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the regional semifinals.

Women's tennis returning to regionals for fifth straight year

Don’t let the 8-10 record fool you…the Chapman University women’s tennis team is nationally-ranked, battle-tested and primed for a run at the West Region crown. For the fifth straight season, the Panthers have earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. Chapman, ranked No. 15 in the nation, will face Grinnell College (Iowa) on Thursday in the first round at 1:30 p.m.

Chapman University seniors Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox reached the quarterfinals in the independent college doubles bracket at the 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament on Thursday and Friday. It was the final career appearance for the Panther duo in Ojai.

Seven Chapman University tennis players will represent the school in the 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. The tournament, which runs from April 28-May 1, will have three representatives from the Panthers’ men’s team and four from the women’s squad.

The parade of top-ranked opponents visiting Orange came to a heartbreaking end as the Chapman University women’s tennis team lost a tough match 5-4 to No. 11 Johns Hopkins University (Md.) at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. JHU was the fifth top-25 team to visit No. 13-ranked Chapman at home this season.

Poised hopefully for its run at a fourth consecutive NCAA playoff appearance, the No. 13-ranked Chapman University women’s tennis team rebounded from a tough showing at the Division III Indoor Nationals and took two of three matches on the Panthers’ home court this weekend. Chapman defeated visiting Texas-Tyler on Thursday and U.C. Santa Cruz on Saturday by identical scores of 7-2 before dropping a 7-2 decision to Bowdoin College (Maine.).

Chapman University’s nationally-ranked women’s tennis team received a rude welcoming in its first national tournament since being ranked over the past three years. The No. 13 Panthers were swept out of the building at the Division III National Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday in St. Peter, Minnesota. Chapman was one of eight teams – all ranked in the top-15 in Division III – invited to participate and placed eighth in the event.

Doubles sweep gives Chapman its first win of the season

It took a return home to get the nationally-ranked Chapman University women’s tennis team back into the win column. The No. 13-ranked Panthers defeated No. 18 University of Mary Washington (Va.) 5-4 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Tuesday. It was the Panthers’ first victory of the year after opening their season, on the road against Cal State Northridge, Azusa Pacific, and Cal State Fullerton – all non-Division III teams.

The unseasonably warm Southern California weather has already hinted at the start of the spring season. But it becomes official on Tuesday when the nationally-ranked Chapman University women’s tennis team opens their 2011 season at Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m.

Rankings are out: Panthers No. 13 when spring begins

The Chapman University women’s tennis team will begin the spring season ranked No. 13 in Division III and No. 2 in the West Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls released on Thursday. Additionally, three Panthers are ranked in the top-20 singles players in the West Region.

If there were any doubts the Chapman University women’s tennis team is poised to make a run at the NCAA Division III West Region championship this spring, the Panthers made their opening argument this weekend. Three Chapman women reached as far as the quarterfinals and senior Kelley Fox lost in the semifinals at the ITA Division III Fall West Regionals at Claremont over the weekend.
