Panthers poised for final push at Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – Ten Chapman University men's and women's tennis players are set to compete at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club beginning on Thursday. The Panthers' top singles and doubles players from the 2011-12 season will represent Chapman in the annual small college brackets.

Sophomore Justin Thompson is the only Chapman player to earn a pre-tournament seeding as he is seeded No. 9 in the Men's Division III Singles bracket. Thompson, who is ranked No. 17 in the West Region currently with a 7-8 record as the Panthers' top singles player, will square off against Ian Stanley from U.C. Santa Cruz in the Round of 64 on Friday at 9 a.m.

Junior Dylan Tevlin, who is tied for the team lead with seven singles wins this season, also qualified for the men's singles bracket and will take on Willamette University's Josh Wong at the same time on Friday.

Thompson and doubles partner Chris Williams will then take on Alex Groth and Chris Weichert from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges while Tevlin and senior Alex Klein will face Bryce Bettwy and Max Littlejohn from U.C. Santa Cruz in the Round of 32 in doubles on Friday afternoon.

On the women's side, Chapman freshman Sophia Duong will make her Ojai debut against Caltech's Stephanie Kwan on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Duong is ranked No. 23 in the West Region with an overall record of 5-10 as the Panthers' top seed. Senior Cassady Sirois (7-7 in singles play overall) will face Holly Beaman from Cal Lutheran University on Thursday at 8 a.m.

Women's doubles will also be in action on Thursday afternoon as the West Region's No. 13-ranked Danielle Kaiden and Kelley Klebenow drew Biola University's Danielle Calbeck and Mari Pace in the Independent College Round of 32. Panthers' wins leaders Melissa Boyer and Amy Logan (9-8 in doubles play) face Beaman and Sarah Baker from Cal Lu.
