Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.
Men's, women's NCAA Tournament life short-lived

A pair of losses for the Chapman University men’s and women’s basketball teams ended their seasons in the first rounds of their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments on Friday night. The Panther men fell 85-70 to host and No. 16-ranked University of Texas-Dallas in the central time zone preceding a 106-51 loss by the women to host and No. 7-ranked Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. in the nation’s last game of the night.
Panther backcourt gets well-deserved All-SCIAC awards

The NCAA Tournament-bound Chapman University men’s basketball team has felt all year it had one of, if not the, most talented backcourts in the SCIAC. Now the Panthers have some hardware to prove it as junior guards Colin Zavrsnick and Taylor Hamasaki have been named to the All-SCIAC First and Second teams, respectively.
Joyce's big weekend garners weekly SCIAC honors

Chapman University men's basketball player John Joyce has been named SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 24-March 2. He becomes the third Panther hoopster to earn the award this season, joining juniors Taylor Hamasaki (twice) and Colin Zavrsnick.

The 2014 NCAA Division III Tournament bracket was announced Monday morning and the Chapman University men's basketball team is heading to Texas this weekend. The Panthers will face off in a first-round regional matchup against No. 20 University of Texas at Dallas on Friday night.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team defeated visiting Cal Lutheran University 79-51 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night to win the SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship and advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the third time in five years.

Narrowing in on its first-ever SCIAC playoff berth, the Chapman University men’s basketball team defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 55-49 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night. The Panthers’ third straight victory over the second-ranked team in the conference sent a message to the rest of the SCIAC while avenging a double-overtime loss at the hands of the Sagehens in January.

The Chapman University men’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to visiting Occidental College on Saturday night, losing in overtime 99-94 in a SCIAC matchup at the Hutton Sports Center. After the Panthers rallied in the second half to tie the game and force overtime, Oxy took charge in the extra period to win by five and snap its own four-game conference losing streak.

For the second straight week, Chapman University men's basketball player Taylor Hamasaki has been named SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec. 31-Jan. 6. He becomes the second Panther to earn the award multiple times this season, joining Chapman volleyball player Val Geiger.
