An early goal in the 7th minute of play proved to be the game-winner as the Chapman University mens soccer team was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Division III championships with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Whitworth University on Saturday at U.C. Santa Cruz. The No. 4-seeded Panthers were making their first NCAA postseason appearance in 10 years.

Spotlight shines on seniors in final home game

The Chapman University mens soccer team is hoping Monday nights 3-0 victory over La Sierra University wasnt the final game of the season. If it was, it turned out to be a fitting ending for a senior class that has led the Panthers to 12 and 11 wins each of the past two years. Three Chapman seniors scored goals in their final regular season games and the Panthers earned their 17th team shutout in two years as the playoff-hopefuls captured another win at Wilson Field.

In a physical, emotionally-charged game pitting two of the top-six teams in the West Region, U.C. Santa Cruz escaped with a 1-0 overtime win over the Chapman University mens soccer team on Friday evening at Wilson Field. In the 97th minute, Santa Cruz junior M Clayton Sorensen got loose in front of the net and scored the game-winning goal off a rebound to give the Banana Slugs their second 1-0 victory over Chapman this season.

Coming off a season where Chapman set a school record for goals-against average, the Panthers defeated visiting University of La Verne 1-0 and ran its scoreless streak to 341 consecutive minutes dating back to last year.
