WWPA names nine Panthers to its All-Academic team

Three-time honorees junior utility Pierre Masson and senior utility Dominic Tornambe top the list of nine Chapman University men’s water polo players that have been selected to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team for the 2010-11 school year.

Five members of the Chapman University men’s water polo team have earned All-Academic awards for the 2010 season, according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). In addition, the team finished with the 16th highest grade-point average in the nation with a combined mark of 2.997.

Chapman tops Whittier for first-ever win at WWPA Championships

In three previous appearances at the Western Water Polo Association Men’s Championships, the Chapman University men’s water polo team has come up winless. That all changed on Sunday as Chapman defeated Whittier College 13-12 in sudden-death overtime on a goal by senior utility Dominic Tornambe to capture ninth place and the school’s first-ever WWPA postseason victory.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday, beating visiting Occidental College 12-9 at the Allred Pool. The Panthers held the Tigers in a close game in which Occidental came within two on several occasions, but never led.
