Women's doubles reaches third round at Ojai

Two of Chapman University women’s doubles teams reached the third round at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club on Thursday and Friday. In addition, freshman No. 1 singles player Sophia Duong advanced to the second round on Thursday before being eliminated.

Ten Chapman University men’s and women’s tennis players are set to compete at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club beginning on Thursday. The Panthers’ top singles and doubles players from the 2011-12 season will represent Chapman in the annual small college brackets.

In a battle of two of the top-four teams in the West Region, the No. 21 Chapman University women’s tennis team returned to action on Sunday and fell to No. 15-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 6-3 at the Anaheim Hills Racquet Club.

The Chapman University women’s tennis team won their second match in a row, defeating UC Santa Cruz 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The Panthers are now 8-5, improving their home record to 6-5.

Women's tennis tops Redlands, loses to Trinity over the weekend

The Chapman University women’s tennis team played a pair of matches over the weekend, losing to Trinity (Conn.) on Friday before coming back to defeat Redlands on Saturday afternoon at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club. Chapman has won three of its last five matches and is the 28th ranked squad in Division III, No. 4 in the West Region.

The Chapman University women’s tennis team handed the University of Rochester (N.Y.) its first loss of the season with a 7-2 win Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The Panthers improved their overall record to 5-3, 2-3 at home.

No. 14 Washington avoids upset with 5-4 win over Chapman

The No. 14-ranked Washington University (Mo.) women’s tennis team won four of the top five singles matches and avoided the upset by defeating No. 27-ranked Chapman University 5-4 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. It is just the second loss of the season for the Panthers, both decided by one match.

A third-set rally by No. 30-ranked Brandeis University’s Simone Vandroff sent the No. 18 Chapman University women’s tennis team home with its first loss of the season on Thursday afternoon in a battle of NCAA Division III top-30 programs.

The Chapman University women’s tennis team advanced its record to 3-0 Friday defeating Whittier College 7-2 at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club. The No. 18 Panthers’ five singles and two doubles wins established a strong start in their home opener after defeating Caltech and Cal Lutheran on the road.

Tennis kicks off season this weekend with Caltech

Both the Chapman University men’s and women’s tennis teams get their season underway this weekend as they travel to Caltech for their first matches of 2012. The women play Caltech on Friday at 2 p.m. while the men play Saturday at the same time.
