Srivastava named DIIICA Region X Women’s Sports Student-Athlete of the Year

In the first year of an awards program sponsored by the Division III Commissioner’s Association, women’s volleyball standout Sophie Srivastava has been named a finalist for the Women’s Sports Athlete of the Year.
Volleyball makes it 13 years in a row with USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award

For the 13th year in a row, the Chapman University women’s volleyball team has earned the US Marine Corps Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award is an annual recognition of high school and college volleyball teams that maintain a 3.3 team GPA.
A record number of Chapman student-athletes earn SCIAC All-Academic

Chapman University student-athletes set a new school record with 281 individuals earning SCIAC All-Academic recognition. The 281 individuals to earn the annual academic recognition are 22 more than year’s record-breaking number. The SCIAC annually recognizes student-athletes who have been at their institution for at least one academic year and finished the school year with a 3.4 cumulative GPA or better.

Dynamic senior duo Sophie Srivastava and Jessi Lumsden ended their careers with another All-Region nod from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Both seniors earned multiple All-Region selections during their careers with Srivastava earning the recognition all three years and Lumsden being recognized for the second time.

Senior Sophie Srivastava made Chapman volleyball history, becoming the first player to be selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Year. The SCIAC announced the All-SCIAC team on Monday with Srivastava headlining three Chapman selections. Senior Jessi Lumsden and junior Cat Helgeson both were also selected to the First Team.

Senior Jessi Lumsden won her second SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week award after surpassing 900 career kills last week. Lumsden led the Panthers to a 2-1 week and a big win over Cal Lutheran.

The Chapman women’s volleyball team defeated Cal Lutheran 3-1 at home in their second matchup of the 2021 season, the Panthers defeated the Regals 3-2 when they faced Sept. 28.

The Chapman University volleyball team overcame a slow start to win their fifth match in a row with a 3-1 victory over visiting Occidental. The Panthers improved to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC with the 14-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 victory.
