Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

Chapman University celebrated another banner year in athletics with its annual Jog-a-thon and Sports Appreciation Day at Wilson Field on Friday afternoon. Besides celebrating the school’s first-ever SCIAC championship (women’s basketball) and another SCIAC Tournament title (men’s basketball), the Panthers recognized four seniors with the Department of Athletics annual awards.

The Chapman University football team is partnering with Be The Match – a non-profit organization – in search of registrants for bone marrow donation. The Panthers will be holding a drive on Wednesday, March 12 throughout the Chapman campus, asking the community for a simple cheek swab and waiver which could potentially lead to saving lives.

After spearheading an offensive line that paved the way for a record-breaking season, senior G Justin LaLonde was named to the D3Football.com All-West Region second team. The four-year starter becomes the first Chapman athlete to earn second team honors from D3Football.com, following three straight third-team selections.

Eleven Panthers named to All-SCIAC football team

A historic season in which the Chapman University football team matched a school record with an 8-1 finish was recognized by the SCIAC conference as 11 Panthers earned All-Conference selections as voted on by the head coaches in the SCIAC. Nine of the 11 Panthers were named to the All-SCIAC first-team with junior QB Michael Lahey earning Offensive Player of the Year honors.

The Chapman University football team overcame uncharacteristic turnovers to earn a 37-27 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday, finishing the regular season with an 8-1 record that matches the best mark in school history. The high-powered offense compiled another 500+ yd. performance, but it was the Chapman defense that came to the rescue, providing key takeaways that secured the team’s first home win over the Kingsmen since 2007.

A pair of Chapman University offensive linemen have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior guard Justin LaLonde and sophomore center Jacob Speer each earned the award for the first time in their careers.

Redlands comeback leads to football's first loss

It was a tale of two halves at Wilson Field on Saturday as the Chapman University football team took its first loss on the season, dropping a 21-17 decision to the Redlands Bulldogs. Despite holding a 10 point lead heading into the final quarter, the Panthers gave up 14 unanswered points as their record-tying five-game winning streak came to an end.

The Chapman University football team pulled away from host Occidental College with a big second half and defeated the Tigers 35-16 on Saturday night at Jack Kemp Stadium to improve to 5-0 on the season (3-0 SCIAC), equaling the longest unbeaten start in school history.
