Madeline Saunders, Women's Tennis

Sophomore Madeline Saunders led the Chapman University women’s tennis team to a fifth-place finish over the weekend at the SCIAC Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The sophomore finished the weekend 5-1, including three consecutive victories with doubles partner Sophia Duong. On Friday, Saunders and Duong earned the only doubles victory 9-7 in a 5-2 loss to No. 4 Redlands. Later that afternoon, Saunders had a shutout sweep 6-0, 6-0 over Occidental from the No. 4 spot in singles play in the Panthers 7-2 victory over the Tigers. The Boise, Idaho native then closed the weekend with 7-6, 5-7, 7-4 victory over Cal Lutheran for her third straight win. Saunders led the Panthers this season with a 16-8 record overall, including a 12-7 record from the No. 4 spot, while finishing just above .500 with 6-5 record in conference. Saunders and Duong also led the Panthers with a team-best of 16-7 in doubles play this season.
