The Chapman University baseball team concluded another championship season with the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association. The annual award for academic achievement went out to nearly 700 high school and college programs in 2022.
A trio of Chapman University baseball student-athletes competed in their respective summer league All-Star Games. AJ Anzai, Grant Manning and Trent Turquand each earned the All-Star nods.
Chapman University student-athletes set a new school record with 281 individuals earning SCIAC All-Academic recognition. The 281 individuals to earn the annual academic recognition are 22 more than year’s record-breaking number. The SCIAC annually recognizes student-athletes who have been at their institution for at least one academic year and finished the school year with a 3.4 cumulative GPA or better.
A career that started with a national championship ended with another prestigious honor as Chapman University baseball senior Cooper Foard was selected to the College Sports Information Directors Association’s Academic All-America Third Team.
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kiana had a historic weekend for their Panthers in their two-day meet, breaking five individual records, and two school records. In fact, she broke a record every time she landed in the water this weekend. Kiana broke the 100 Fly and 200 Fly records, the 200 Fly record set in 2004 by Kati Wise. She helped the women's medley and free relay teams set school records. She also set the fastest 50 and 100 fly splits in school history, breaking the 50 split record twice on the weekend.
