Softball earns academic awards from NFCA

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recognized the Chapman University softball team and 17 of its student-athletes for academic achievement.

The SCIAC recognized 270 Chapman University student-athletes on its annual All-Academic list. Collectively, Panther student-athletes raised the bar for academic achievement as every team achieved a 3.2 team GPA or better.

Malen selected to NFCA All-Region team

Freshman Rose Malen has ended her first year with the Chapman University softball as an All-Region Third Team selection. Malen is the second freshman pitcher from Chapman in as many seasons to earn the award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Six Panthers honored as Academic All-District

Six more Panthers, representing three teams, earned Academic All-District VIII honors from the College Sports Communicators. The softball team had three honorees along with two from men’s tennis and one from women’s tennis.
Softball forces winner-take-all but falls in extras of championship game

The Chapman University softball team forced a winner-take-all championship game with a 2-0 win but fell 2-1 in extras as Redlands reclaimed the SCIAC Postseason Tournament crown. Chapman made its third consecutive appearance in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship round.

Four early runs propelled the Chapman University softball team to a 7-3 victory over the hosts, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, in the first elimination game of the SCIAC Tournament. Jillian Kelly picked up the win in the circle with four strong innings in relief.

Softball stumbles in SCIAC Tournament opener

The Chapman University softball team opened the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with a 10-4 loss to third-seeded Redlands on Friday. The Panthers take on the host, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, in an elimination game tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Softball seeks second straight SCIAC championship

Softball gears up for another trip to the SCIAC tournament, traveling to Claremont for a first round matchup against the Redlands Bulldogs, a rematch of last year’s SCIAC championship game. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Chapman Athletics and the Chapman Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the Second Annual Student-Athlete Awards with 21 team and individual awards handed out to honor on and off field achievements.
Softball lands program-best five All-SCIAC selections

A program-high five Panthers were selected to the All-SCIAC softball teams, which were announced by the conference on Tuesday. After finishing the SCIAC season tied atop the standings, three were selected to the First Team and two more earned Second Team selections.
Murphy walks it off, Malen one over the minimum in senior day win

It was a Miranda Murphy single that sent Chapman fans home happy; a 2-1 win over the Whittier Poets on senior day capped off a successful Saturday at the yard for the Panthers.
Softball drops series to Athenas

The Panthers dropped both legs of Saturday, April 22’s doubleheader to the Claremont-M-S Athenas, losing the first game 7-4 then falling in game two 3-1.
Serna tabbed SCIAC Hitter of the Week

Serna smacked her first career homer over the left field wall at El Camino and went 5-for-12 across the three game set. She went 3-for-3 in game two and collected one of the Panthers’ two hits in the first game of the series.
Softball sweeps twinbill with pair of one-run wins

In a series of all one-run games, the Chapman University softball team came away with a doubleheader sweep to pad their lead in the SCIAC standings. The Panthers won 2-1 and 3-2 to take the series win over visiting Pomona-Pitzer, who entered the day tied with the Panthers atop the standings.
