Two Chapman Greats added to 2022 Hall of Fame class

ORANGE, Calif. – When the Night of Champions returns to Chapman University in October 2022, two more legendary Panthers will be added to the Hall of Fame Class of 2022. All-American baseball pitcher Buddy Klovstad '06 and record-setting basketball player Lauren Kamiyama '09 will round out the six-person class to be inducted in 2022.

The Night of Champions and Hall of Fame Inductions had been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The original class was announced in 2019: Toby Curto, Jillian Felger-Mabee, Troy Turnbull and Maggie Wilder-Wilder. Kamiyama and Klovstad will join the original quartet when they are inducted next year.

Kamiyama still holds multiple school records after four years as a point guard for head coach Carol Jue from 2004-09. She missed the 2005-06 season with a torn ACL but came back to be a three-year starter. She was an All-Region selection as a senior. Kamiyama holds the Chapman all-time records with 424 career assists and 242 career steals. Her 86 steals as a senior broke the Chapman single season record at the time and still ranks as the second-highest single season total. Her 134 assists as a sophomore also rank as the second-highest single-season total in school history. She averaged 9.3 points per game and also broke the all-time record at Chapman with 174 made three-pointers, which still stand as the third-most.

Klovstad was a two-time All-American and All-Region pitcher for the Panthers in 2005 and 2006. He led the NCAA Division III in victories in 2006 when he went 13-1 and set the Chapman record with 28 career wins, which still stand as the fourth-most at Chapman. He led the Panthers to the NCAA Division III College World Series in 2005 and 2006 while compiling a 2.18 career ERA with a 28-3 record. He also set a Chapman career record with 272.1 inning pitched – that now ranks fifth – and still ranks eighth in ERA, ninth in strikeouts and ninth in games started. His 125.1 innings pitched as a senior still stands as the most in Chapman history for a single season. He is also one of just four pitchers in Chapman history to win 10 games in a single season without suffering a loss.

The announcement of the addition of Kamiyama and Klovstad to the next Hall of Fame class was first made at the football game on Oct. 16 as part of the Chapman Athletics Hall of Fame reunion. Please visit the Hall of Fame website for more up-to-date information as preparations begin for the 2022 Night of Champions.
