Srivastava selected to NCAA Woman of the Year Top-30

ORANGE, Calif. – A career full of Chapman firsts has extended beyond her time as a student-athlete. Sophie Srivastava is the first-ever Chapman student-athlete to earn a spot in the prestigious Top-30 for the annual NCAA Woman of the Year award.

"I am so incredibly honored to have been nominated for this award," commented Srivastava. "Mostly though, I'm grateful for my team, coaches, family and everyone in the athletics department for helping and supporting me. Sports play an important role in creating strong and confident women, which is why this award is so valuable."

"Sophie was not just a tremendous volleyball player. She was a tremendous leader, student and person," said head coach Mary Cahill. "I count myself lucky to have had her in my program for four years and I cannot think of someone more deserving of this incredible honor."

Srivastava's spot in the top-30 comes from a list of 577 nominees across all three divisions of the NCAA. That list has been whittled down to just 10 representing each division.

"Sophie's accolades and career statistics speak volumes about her abilities as an athlete," said Director of Athletics Terry Boesel. "She was so much more than an accomplished athlete – our SAAC Co-President and a perfect 4.0 student. Her career on and off the court is truly inspirational. We are incredibly proud to count her among our alumni."

As a freshman, Srivastava recorded Chapman's first-ever triple-double on the volleyball court. She went on to set the NCAA all-division record for triple-doubles in a career. She went from the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year as a freshman to the Athlete of the Year as a senior.

As her time as a student-athlete came to an end, Chapman honored her as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021-22. She graduated with a degree in psychology with a perfect 4.0 GPA and is now employed at Chapman's Crean College for Health & Behavioral Sciences.

All of the Top-30 nominees will be recognized at the Woman of the Year luncheon during the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The winner will be announced at the luncheon.
