Bio
Chapman Baseball's most valuable player three consecutive seasons (from 1961-63), Salyards was a four-year letterman for the Panthers. During his senior season, Salyards put together one of this most outstanding offensive performances in school history, leading the nation in batting with a .489 mark with a school-record (at that time) eight round-trippers. That same year Chapman reached the NCAA College Division Regionals for the first time in school history, setting off a string of eight consecutive playoff appearances by the Panthers.
He was signed by the Chicago Cubs in 1963 and reached the Texas League (Double-A) before retiring from baseball.
