ORANGE, Calif. – For the second-straight night, the Chapman University baseball team scored in double-figures as they turned a close game into an 11-2 win over the University of La Verne on Friday night at Hart Park, extending their winning streak to eight.

With the game tied at 1-1, Chapman (19-4) put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by junior OF Ryan Prechtl’s three-run double to left-centerfield off La Verne reliever Anthony Cerafice. After freshman OF James Parr walked, senior IF Matt Luzar came through with a two-run single to left field. In the last two games, Prechtl and Luzar have combined for 15 RBI with eight and seven RBI, respectively.

The Panthers tacked on two runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single by junior IF Tyler Hadzinsky and then two more in the sixth inning when Luzar homered to left, pushing the lead to 10-1.

La Verne (13-13) got a run in the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by senior IF Kevin Ibarra which scored senior IF Victor Peinado who reached with a single. Ibarra finished 2-for-4 on the night and had both of the Leopards’ RBI, with the other coming off of starter Jordan Sigman in the fourth inning. Sigman earned his sixth win of the season by pitching six innings while allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three. Freshman reliever Christian Maietta then closed out the game with the three-inning save.

A total of nine different Chapman players had hits on the night while four had at least two hits. In addition to Hadzinsky (3) and Luzar (3), freshmen Logan Flagg and Mike Chairez had two hits. Flagg also had the first RBI of his career in the eighth inning.
