Rauh selected as First Team All-American by D3baseball.com

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University freshman pitcher Brian Rauh has been selected to the D3baseball.com All-America first team. This marks the first time in Chapman’s Division III baseball history that a freshman at any position has been selected as a First Team All-American.

With an 11-0 record in 2010, Rauh became just the third Chapman pitcher ever to complete a season with 10 or more wins while not recording a loss. The two others to have accomplished that feat are Devin Drag (16-0) in 2007 and Buddy Klovstad (10-0) in 2005.

In addition to winning 11 games, Rauh led the team in ERA (2.38), complete games (4), saves (4), strikeouts (100) and opponent batting average (.175). The 5.51 hits he allowed per nine innings ranked as the fourth lowest total in the national while his 100 strikeouts ranked seventh.

Surprisingly, Rauh got off to a slow start in his first two outings of the season against Whittier College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. In both games, the righty from Lake Forest, Calif. went five innings while allowing three earned runs. Despite winning each game, his ERA after those initial two starts was 5.40. Rauh then came into his own against a strong Pomona-Pitzer squad, holding them to one run while striking out 11 in a complete-game, three-hitter. After his first two, five-inning starts, Rauh then pitched at least six innings in each of his remaining starts.

Rauh joins Regan Dixon of Hardin-Simmons (Texas) as the only two players from the NCAA Division III West Region on the first team. D3baseball.com has been selecting an All-America team since 2007. For a complete list of the D3baseball.com 2010 All-America team please click here.
