Sigman ties career wins mark in Panthers' 11th straight win

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University senior RHP Jordan Sigman tied the school record with his 30th career victory on Saturday night in the Panthers' 19-1 win over Rutgers-Newark University (N.J.) at Hart Park. The right-hander allowed two hits and fanned six over five innings, facing just three batters more than the minimum in the win. Sigman (3-1, 3.7 ERA) has struck out 23 in five appearances this season.

The victory is Chapman's 11th consecutive coming off of a 4-3 win over No. 2 ranked Kean University (N.J.) on Friday night.

Sigman received more than enough run support to earn the milestone victory. Chapman (12-4) never trailed in the game, tallying 19 runs on 15 hits – both season highs. Freshman Connor Battaglia, junior Eric Robbins, and freshman Adam Velez led the Panther offense with three RBI apiece. Velez was 4-for-4 and also scored three runs. Both Robbins and Battaglia's production came off the bench.

The Panthers jumped ahead with four runs in the second thanks, in part to sophomore James Parr's two-run double. Chapman then added two more runs in the third and four in the fourth to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Already leading 13-1 in the eighth, the Panthers exploded for six runs in the inning with Battaglia and Robbins each coming up with bases-clearing doubles.

Overall, the Panthers tagged the Rutgers bullpen with 13 runs on nine hits and drew seven walks in the win. In stark contrast, three Chapman relievers held the Scarlet Raiders to just two hits over the final four innings.
