Saatzer named to Academic All-District baseball team

ORANGE, California – Chapman University senior Mark Saatzer has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The first baseman earned the award for the first time in his career thanks to an outstanding season on the field and in the classroom.

A four-year starter and team captain for Chapman, Saatzer has earned a cumulative 3.48 grade-point average while majoring in biology. His career numbers on the field are equally impressive, but this season he has surpassed even those, currently ranking in the top-five in the SCIAC in batting (.419), on-base percentage (.500) and slugging (.649). He has 19 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles and a career-high six home runs while batting third in the Panthers' order. And to top it off, he has done it with the glove, posting a .995 fielding percentage in the infield.

Saatzer joins an esteemed fraternity of baseball scholars at Chapman, one of 21 players who have earned the Academic All-District award since 1997.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes all Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.
