Cook and Wiehe land on All-SCIAC baseball team

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University baseball team had two players named to the All-SCIAC team for the 2015 season on Monday morning, junior infielders Tyler Cook and John Wiehe received all-conference honors for the first time in their careers, while freshman Jared Love was named to the sportsmanship team.  

Third baseman Cook earned First Team All-SCIAC honors for the first time in his career after playing in all 39 games this season. Cook earned a team-leading 60 hits and 35 runs with 159 at bats. He finished the season with a .377 batting average ranking him eighth overall in SCIAC. He also led the team in multiple hit games with 18 and held the longest hitting streak of the season at 13. 

Shortstop Wiehe was awarded Second Team honors after leading the team with a .389 batting average, sixth overall in SCIAC. Wiehe also had 49 hits and 24 runs with 126 at bats and played in all 39 games this season.  

In addition, first baseman Love received sportsmanship honors as part of the SCIAC spring sports postseason awards. The freshman finished the season with a .284 hitting average and a .446 slugging percentage. He scored 32 runs for the Panthers, including four homers, collected 42 hits in 148 at bats and started all 39 games for Chapman. 

All three infielders helped the Panthers to an overall record of 23-16 (16-12 SCIAC) this season as well as a sixth place finish in the final conference standings.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
