CUW takes game two of series with Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team fell 13-8 to Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park. The Panthers are now 1-1 in the series with the Falcons and 10-4 overall.

The Falcons strung together 12 hits and capitalized on five errors and five walks to earn the victory. Concordia scored 11 runs in the first three innings to take an early lead that Chapman would struggle to rally back from.

Bryan Thomas and Nathan Thyssen were the big hitters in game two of the series, each slugging a homerun over the right field fence to help the Falcons earn their first win of the season. Thomas led the Falcons with 4 RBI and scored three runs on two hits.

Rallying from eight score deficit, sophomore Conner Larkin hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in junior Jared Love in the second to cut the score down to 8-1. In the third, senior Tyler Cook turned a one-run inning into a three-run inning with a two-run homer to left-center to move the score to 11-4. Junior Gavin Blodgett and freshman Tristan Kevitch helped the Panthers cut the Falcons lead in half 12-6 with an RBI each in the fifth. The Panthers final two runs came in the last two innings with RBIs from sophomore Alex Tsuruda and senior John Wiehe.

The Falcons outhit Chapman 12-11 and left only eight runners on base while the Panthers left 12 runners stranded.

Chapman returns to Hart Park Sunday, March 5 for the final game of the series at 10 a.m.
