Baseball surges into postseason

  • Senior Tyler Cook is having a breakout season in his final year as a Panther. He leads the team with a .409 average, which also ranks him third in the SCIAC. He also leads the team in hits with 63 and ranks seventh all-time at Chapman in hits with 205 in his career. His 52 career doubles rank him at second all-time at Chapman.
  • Another leader, senior Jared Love, is also enjoying a breakout season. The first baseman is second on the team and fourth in the SCIAC with a .400 batting average. He leads the team and is ranked No. 2 in the SCIAC in RBIs, knocking in 40 runs. In just three years as a Panther, he has gone yard 17 times, tying Pat Stevens for eighth on the all-time list.
  • Sophomore Joey Harmon has pitched 55.1 innings in his first season as a Panther, keeping a team-best 3.09 ERA which ranks him seventh in the SCIAC. Another sophomore pitcher, Matt Mogollon, leads the team and ranks fourth in the SCIAC with 65 strikeouts.
  • Cal Lutheran earned the No. 1 spot in the postseason after posting an 18-6 record in SCIAC play. The Kingsmen swept Chapman when they faced off earlier in the season. The Panthers are 44-29 all-time against Cal Lutheran, but have lost the last five in a row.
  • The No. 3 postseason seed went to Redlands, who finished 16-8 in conference play. Redlands caught fire late in the year and swept its final series to earn the No. 3 seed. The Panthers swept the SCIAC series but lost a nonconference matchup later in the season.
  • La Verne snagged the final spot in the postseason tournament after finishing 15-9 in SCIAC play. The Panthers dropped two of three games to the Leopards this season, but are 47-19 all-time against the team.
  • Chapman finished second in the regular season to earn a berth to the postseason tournament. The Panthers entered their last two series of the regular season tied for second place and needed to win four out of six games to guarantee the No. 2 spot in the conference. After losing the first two games, Chapman won four in a row, sweeping Occidental to secure the second-place spot.
