Five Panthers recognized as All-SCIAC

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Tyler Cook and junior Jared Love headlined five All-SCIAC selections from the Chapman University baseball team. Cook and Love earned First Team honors while juniors Gavin Blodgett, Justin Stream and Conner Larkin earned Second Team nods.

Cook led the Panthers at the plate in his final season in several categories to notch his second career All-SCIAC selection. He hit .431 overall with a team-best eight homers. He scored 42 runs and drove in 39 RBIs. In SCIAC games, Cook hit .408, ranking fourth in the conference. The third baseman from Tustin, Calif., hit safely in each of his last five games and nine of his last 10. He drove in at least one run in each of his last seven games to lead the Panthers into and through the SCIAC Tournament. He vaulted up several career lists at Chapman over his final season. Most notably, he finished fifth with 19 homers, third with a career .379 batting average and second all-time with 54 doubles.

Love powered his way to his second career All-SCIAC First Team selection. He led the SCIAC with 28 RBIs in SCIAC games as well as drawing a conference-high 22 walks. He ranked second with a .732 slugging percentage and second, by one-tenth of a percent, with a .541 on-base percentage. He hit .415 in SCIAC games to rank third in the conference Overall, Love was second on the team and fourth in the SCIAC with a batting average of .385. The first baseman from Brea, Calif., knocked in a team-best 45 RBIs and smacked seven homers to go along with a team-best 18 doubles. He ranks eighth all-time with 17 career homers at Chapman.

Blodgett spent time at second base and behind the plate this year for the Panthers but put together another outstanding offensive season for a second consecutive All-SCIAC honor. He led the Panthers and ranked third in the SCIAC with 46 runs this season. He hit 16 doubles, ranking second on the Chapman squad and third in the SCIAC. His 11 doubles in SCIAC games was tied for the best in the conference while his 23 RBIs in SCIAC games ranked sixth.

Larkin turned it on at the plate when the SCIAC season came around to earn the second All-SCIAC Second Team recognition of his baseball career. He also was an All-SCIAC selection in football in 2014. The center fielder from San Diego, Calif., hit .359 in SCIAC games with four doubles and three homers while leading the conference with four triples. He had five outfield assists this season – two of which came in SCIAC games.

In his first season with the Panthers, Stream earned All-SCIAC Second Team recognition. Hit hit .351 this season and .346 in SCIAC games. He ranked in the top-10 with 13 doubles overall and nine in SCIAC games. He ranked third on the team with 38 RBIs, which ranked sixth in the SCIAC. The Panthers' DH from Orange, Calif., hit a pair of home runs this year, including a grand slam.

Sophomore Anthony DeNiro was also recognized on the Sportsmanship Team.

The Panthers five All-SCIAC selections equals the second-most in program history with last year's squad. Chapman made the SCIAC Tournament for the second season in a row after finishing second with a 16-8 SCIAC record and a 26-14 overall record.
