Trio of Panthers earn All-Region award

ORANGE, Calif. – Three members of the Chapman University baseball team earned All-West Region recognition on Monday afternoon after D3basball.com released its annual All-Region selections. Junior Tyler Peck headlined the selections with a spot on the Second Team, while juniors Matt Mogollon and Tristan Kevitch earned spots on the Third Team.

Peck's first career All-Region selection comes after a junior season in which he boasted career numbers and his first career All-SCIAC selection. The junior posted a career-best record of 7-2 with two complete games this season. He led the Panthers and ranked second in the SCIAC with a career-low 2.63 ERA. The right-hander also led the conference and the squad with a career-best 98 strikeouts.

The Corte Madera native pitched five 10-plus strikeout games this year, including a 14-strikeout complete-game shutout against Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. He also combined with junior Mason Collins for a no-hitter against Whittier in which he struck out 10 batters in 7.1 innings pitched. Peck currently ranks fifth in the country allowing just over five hits per nine innings.

This is also Mogollon's first career All-Region recognition after earning a spot on the All-SCIAC First Team. The right-hander ranked second on the squad and third in the conference with a career-low 2.67 ERA. He also tied for second in the conference with fellow Chapman pitcher Christian Cosby with eight wins after posting a career-best record of 8-4.

In his 14 appearances this year, the South Torrance native ranked third in the SCIAC with 89 strikeouts and four complete games, three of which were shutouts against conference opponents. Mogollon pitched three 10-plus strikeout games, including an 11-strikeout complete-game shutout against Occidental in the Panthers' final regular season series.

Kevitch earned a spot on the Third Team for the first time in his career after also earning his first career All-SCIAC recognition. Before suffering an injury that caused him to miss most of the postseason, the outfielder led the Panthers with 58 hits, 41 runs scored and 12 doubles.

The Ardmore, Pa. native led Chapman and ranked fifth in the conference with a career-best .382 batting average while also ranking eighth in the conference with 38 RBIs this season. Kevitch ranked tied for third in the SCIAC with seven home runs this year, including a two-home run game against Principia.

The 2018 season marks the seventh year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
