Baseball rallies late for big win over Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – A late rally helped secure a big 11-2 victory for the Chapman University baseball team at Cal Lutheran. With the win, the Panthers jumped to the top of the standings with two games left to play in the regular season.

Senior Henry Zeisler had a home run and a double while junior Brad Shimabuku added another solo homer to lead the Panthers at the plate. Senior Cody Turner went six strong innings on the mound, limiting Cal Lutheran to just one run on seven hits. He fanned four and walked a pair. Sophomore Wyatt Thompson finished off the final three innings for his first save of the season, allowing just a run on two hits while striking out four.

The Panthers took a lead in the top of the first when junior Cooper Foard singled in classmate Brad Shimabuku. Two more runs came across in the fifth for Chapman on Zeisler's solo homer and an error later in the inning. Zeisler's double in the sixth made it 4-1.

Cal Lutheran got a run back in the seventh but Chapman exploded for a six-run eighth and tacked on another run in the ninth thanks to Shimabuku's home run.

Chapman and Cal Lutheran finish off the series and the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader at Hart Park. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
