Baseball shuts out George Fox in series-opener

ORANGE, Calif. – Another solid pitching performance led the Chapman University baseball team to a 4-0 win over visiting George Fox in the first of a three-game series on Friday. Sophomore Brandon Menzel was superb with five-plus innings out of the bullpen.

After starter Wyatt Thompson left early with an injury, Menzel took over on the mound and was nearly untouchable. He struck out seven in 5.1 innings and allowed just one single. He earned his first collegiate while doubling his career innings pitched and strikeout totals.

Three Chapman pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts in the shutout victory as Dylan Holt closed out the final two innings.

Senior Connor Montgomery went 3-for-4 to lead the Chapman offense while senior Drew Littwin and Cooper Foard each had two hits.

The Panthers took advantage of two George Fox errors in the third innings to plate a pair of runs and take a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, freshman Josh Phillips hit a towering two-tun home run to left field – the first homer of his career.

Chapman hosts George Fox for two games tomorrow with the first game beginning at 11 a.m. at Hart Park.
