Anzai, Turquand, Manning selected as summer league All-Stars

ORANGE, Calif. – A trio of Chapman University baseball student-athletes competed in their respective summer league All-Star Games. AJ Anzai, Grant Manning and Trent Turquand each earned the All-Star nods.

After earning All-Region honors this spring, Manning has enjoyed continued success on the mound with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League. Manning earned the start in the NWL All-Star Game and tossed a scoreless inning for the Great Lakes side. He owns a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings pitched this season with 30 strikeouts against seven walks. Opposing batters are hitting just .175 against him.

Anzai – another All-Region selection this spring – earned the start at first base and participated in the Home Run Derby for the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League. He went 1-for-2 in the All-Star Game but also drew three walks for the Gold Team. He also took the mound for a scoreless appearance of 0.2 innings. He is hitting .321 for the North Fork Ospreys with three doubles, one homer and 12 RBIs. He has also taken the mound five times, striking out 18 over 18.2 innings.

Turquand made the start behind the plate for the National All-Stars of the Sunset Baseball League, going 1-for-2 in the game. He leads the Ventura County Bucs with 25 hits this spring and is hitting .362 with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBIs. He has caught 11-of-26 runners attempting to steal a base from behind the plate.
