Baseball sweeps twin bill, notches three seed in SCIAC tourney

ORANGE, Calif. — Baseball swept its final twin bill of the season in convincing fashion with 10-0 and 8-3 victories over Cal Lutheran on senior day, Saturday, May 6.

Game 1 - W, 10-0 (Final 7)

Wyatt Thompson was nearly unhittable in what may be his final start at Hart Park in his career. The senior tossed seven scoreless, allowing four hits while striking out six.

The bats were on fire as well, tallying 12 hits in the opener. Ryan Nopper collected three in three at bats, driving in two runs on a single.

Brad Shimabuku and Cole Minato were the only other Panthers with multi-hit games, notching two hits apiece, and AJ Anzai added a home run and two RBI.

Game 2 - W, 8-3

Chapman notched the series victory behind another solid offensive performance. The Panthers tallied three in the first and two more in the second to jump out to a commanding 5-0 lead and didn't look back.

Minato added two more hits to his ledger and knocked out his first career home run. He ended the regular season with 19 multi-hit performances.

Anzai and Nopper added a pair of hits, and Trent Turquand had two hits as well.

Max Banks started on the bump, recording seven innings of three-run ball, striking out seven. He worked out of two jams in the fourth and sixth, limiting damage and keeping the Panthers ahead to earn his sixth win of the season.

With the victory, Chapman secures the third seed in the SCIAC tournament. They will take on Claremont-M-S in the first round on the road Thursday at 3 p.m. — site to be determined.
