There's No Place Like Home
With its 38-12 win over La Verne, this year's team became the first Chapman team since 1995 to go unbeaten at home in a single season. The Panthers are currently riding a four-game home winning streak during which they have averaged 40.25 points per game. Chapman went 5-0 at the old Ernie Chapman Stadium 17 years ago as part of a school-record nine straight home wins from 1994-96. In 1995, Chapman won a school-record eight games.
Back on Track
The win over La Verne also locked up the Panthers first winning season since 2008 when the team went 5-4. Chapman has had three straight years with a 4-5 record after earning back-to-back winning seasons in 2007-08. This marks the third winning season under Coach Owens in his seven seasons.
Rush Hour Continues
Chapman rushed for 453 yards against La Verne, its highest single-game rushing total in the Coach Owens era. Sophomore QB Kean Stancil ran for a Chapman QB record 248 yards on 11 carries in the game including touchdown runs of 79 and 88 yards. Chapman has now rushed for 100 or more yards in 12-consecutive games. The last time Chapman failed to rack up 100 yards was in a 14-9 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 2011. In that game, Chapman was held to 53 yards rushing on 28 carries. During the 12-game stretch, the team has had 10, 100-yard individual rushing games with five coming from sophomore RB Jeremiah McKibbins, two coming from senior RB Chad Milburn and one each from senior RB Al White, junior QB Michael Lahey and Stancil.
Winning the Turnover Battle
With five turnovers forced against La Verne – three interceptions and two fumbles – Chapman leads the SCIAC in turnover margin at plus five and is 50th nationally out of 240 Division III teams. Chapman has forced 18 turnovers and only given up 13. Chapman's 12 interceptions is its most since 2008 which is the last season the team happened to have a winning record. Senior DB Cameron Cutter had two interceptions vs. La Verne earning him D3 Team of the Week honors and he now leads the team with four on the season.

Chapman vs. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Chapman won its game vs. CMS in 2011 14-9 but it came down to the final minutes of the game. Chapman is 6-2 all-time vs. CMS last losing in the series in 2010, 31-21 at Ernie Chapman Stadium. In both 2011 and 2009, Chapman failed to put up many points against CMS but its defense held CMS to nine points in each win.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 2012
After losing its first two games by a combined seven points to Lewis & Clark (Ore.) and Rhodes, CMS has been defeated by at least 13 points in each of its five SCIAC games. CMS' seven game losing streak is currently the ninth longest losing streak in Division III, but remains 14 games short of the longest current streak of 21. CMS' last win came over rival Pomona-Pitzer to close out the 2011 season.
One area that CMS has excelled in 2012 is its pass defense. CMS currently leads the SCIAC in pass defense at 206 yards per game. The CMS defense has excelled at getting pressure on opposing offenses and has averaged 2.14 sacks and six tackles-for-loss which both rank third in the SCIAC. On offense, WR Kris Otterholt has been a standout and averaged 7.29 receptions per game which rank third in the SCIAC and 17th in Division III.
