Football dominates at Whittier

ORANGE, Calif. – A dominant 50-7 win over Whittier sent the Chapman University football team into the bye week with back-to-back wins. Nathaniel Espinoza tied the school record with six touchdown passes in the victory.

Chapman scored on back-to-back offensive plays for an early 13-0 lead and continued to pull away as the Panthers coasted to the victory. Espinoza scrambled right and found Wyatt Hardin for a four-yard score to open the scoring. After Adam Andrade's first career interception, Espinoza hit Spencer Corona for a 31-yard catch-and-run TD to make it 13-0,

The Panthers dominated on both sides of the ball. Espinoza completed 19-of-24 passes for 320 yards and six touchdowns to match Ricky Bautista and Ian Fieber in the Chapman record book. Corona and Hardin both hauled in two touchdowns to close in on a couple of school records. Corona caught six passes for 108 yards and Hardin caught seven passes for 90 yards. John Krall's 65-yard touchdown catch fueled a three catch, 85-yard day.

The Chapman defense forced four turnovers – more than its season total entering the game – with Cooper Ahlers grabbing two interceptions. Alexander Terriquez tallied two tackles for loss, including one of Chapman's four sacks in the game.

Whittier managed just three rushing yards in the game but accumulated 265 passing yards with Jalen Joley hauling in seven catches for 167 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown.

Chapman's dominant effort led to a 40-0 halftime lead on the strength of a 27-0 advantage in the second half.

The Panthers have their bye next week but return home for Senior Day on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.to take on Cal Lutheran in the final home game of the season.
