Espinoza, Mendoza named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Nathaniel Espinoza and Tanner Mendoza were each selected as SCIAC Athletes of the Week after leading the Panthers to a big 65-26 win over Cal Lutheran in Chapman's home finale. Espinaoza was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week and Mendoza was the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Espinoza earned the weekly award from the conference for the third time this season. He completed nearly 85 percent of his passes against Cal Lutheran, throwing for 383 yards and five touchdowns. He completed seven passes for 20 yards or more in the blowout victory. He leads the SCIAC with 25 passing  touchdowns this season and has thrown just three interceptions. He ranks fourth in Division III with a 197.8.

Mendoza earned his first weekly award of the season for his pay on Special Teams. The senior running back made his special teams presence known with a pair of big plays. He blocked a punt for Chapman's second block of the game and flew down the field to make a tackle inside the 20 one of Chapman's kickoffs.

The Panthers won their third game in a row and head to La Verne for the season finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
