Second half run propels Chapman to 76-57 win over Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. - With a one-point halftime lead, the Chapman University men's basketball team outscored the University of Redlands 27-9 over a 10-minute stretch to start the second half, en route to the 76-57 win on Sunday afternoon at the Hutton Sports Center.

Chapman (9-1) held a 30-29 lead at the break but asserted itself early in the second half with back-to-back layups by junior F Justin Riley and senior Jared Kaiser to take a 34-29 lead. With 17:20 remaining in the game, a bucket by Redlands' junior C Jordan Sanvictores narrowed Chapman's lead to 38-33. Chapman then held Redlands without a field-goal for the next six minutes as they went on a 19-1 run building their lead to 57-34 with 11 minutes remaining. Six Panthers scored during the run, led by senior G Kyle Wood who had six of his 11 points during that span.

Wood is one of four Panthers to finish in double figures. Kaiser and junior G Griffin Ramme finished each with a game-high 14 points while Riley added 10 points and eight rebounds. Kaiser and Ramme each were perfect from the field, attempting four and five field goals, respectively.

Redlands (3-5) shot 48 percent from the field in the second half but struggled to keep Chapman from making high-percentage shots as the Panthers shot nearly 70 percent for the half.

The first 20 minutes was a much different story for Redlands as they kept the game close by holding Chapman to 39 percent shooting. Redlands held Chapman without a field goal for the final seven minutes before halftime. A free throw by Riley with 6:05 built the Panthers' lead to 28-20, its largest of the half.  Redlands then closed out the first half with a 7-2 run narrowing the Panthers lead to 30-29 at halftime.

The Bulldogs were led by Sanvictores who had 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and senior G Andrew Maertens who also finished in double-figures with 11 points including two three-pointers.
