Another 20 points from Lin helps Chapman beat Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – A strong second half performance by the Chapman University men's basketball team propelled the Panthers to a 68-61 win over visiting University of Redlands on Saturday night at the Hutton Center. The win gives Chapman back-to-back wins for the first time in a month and a 3-1 record at home this season.

With the score tied at 27 at halftime, Chapman (6-4) went on a 9-0 run to open the second half and out-scored Redlands 21-10 in the first 5:37 of the period. Senior G Brandon Lin sank his third three-pointer of the night with 14:23 remaining in the contest to give the Panthers a 48-37 lead they would not relinquish.

Chapman led again by 11 with just under 6 minutes left when the Bulldogs mounted their own rally. Redlands (3-4) went on an 8-0 run cutting the Chapman lead to three at 62-59 with 1:08 left in the game. However, Lin extended the lead back to five with a bucket on the Panthers' next possession and Chapman made all four of its free throws down the stretch to hang on for the seven-point win.

Lin finished matched his career-high with 20 points for the second consecutive game and added a season-high five assists. Freshman G Jordan Young added 14 points, including his own trio of triples. Chapman shot 54.5 percent (12 of 22) from the field and scored 41 second half points after shooting just 33.3 percent in the first half.

For the Bulldogs, senior C Jack Colston earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior G Tristan Kirk led Redlands with 11 points and four assists.

Chapman extended its winning streak against Redlands to six, including a 56-51 win over the Bulldogs earlier this season as well as a first round NCAA playoff game at Hutton Center last March.

The Panthers hit the road on Wednesday to face Occidental College at 7:30 p.m. beginning a stretch that includes just one home game in their next eight games.
