'Lin-sanity' continues as Chapman puts up 102 points on Pacifica

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior PG Brandon Lin has been on a tear of late and that trend continued as he tied a career-high with 31 points and the Chapman University men's basketball team ran away with a 102-70 win over Pacifica College on Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center. The last time Chapman scored 100-plus points was in 2006 when they did it twice during the season, both losses. Freshman G Colin Zavrsnick also had a career-high on Wednesday for Chapman with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Since a tough 44-43 loss to U.C. Santa Cruz in which he had just seven points, Lin has had 21 points or more in six-straight games including a career-high 31, twice. Lin's 31 points is just two shy of the career-high assistant coach Zach Wheatley put up against La Verne in 2004, which is tied for fourth all-time.

Chapman took advantage of 16 turnovers by Pacifica (5-20) for 27 points and its bench outscored Pacifica 54-10 on the night. Chapman (16-7) did not get its first double-digit lead of the game until the 9:28 mark of the first half on a basket by Lin, which gave Chapman a 21-10 advantage. The Panthers extended their lead to as many as 21 in the first half after a free-throw by senior G Andrew Avalos made the score 43-22 with 49 seconds before halftime. Chapman led 43-26 at the break.

A pair of free throws by F Deondrae Lewis followed by a free throw from G Jonathan Johnson got Pacifica within 12 points at 43-31 at the 18:31 mark of the second half which as close as Pacifica would get the rest of the game. Lewis had a team-high 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Both Chapman and Pacifica had three scorers in double-figures. Sophomore F Nick Dragovich was the third Chapman player in double-digits, with 10 points, while Derrionte Ross and Johnson had 13 and 10, respectively for Pacifica.
