Bokosky gets career win No. 400 as Panthers run record to 7-0

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Chalk up Chapman University head coach Mike Bokosky's 400th career victory as one little in doubt. The Panthers defeated host La Sierra University 81-58 on the road Monday night to give the Chapman's leader his milestone victory and the team a seven-game winning streak to begin the season.

Bokosky is Chapman's all-time men's basketball career wins leader and now has a head coaching record of 400-173 and is nearing a .700 all-time winning percentage (.698). He is in his 24th season as Chapman's coach, his only head coaching position after serving as assistant coach at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton at the start of his career.

His last milestone win came in 2009 when he got win No. 300 in a 30-point decision over UC Santa Cruz. Since then he has guided the Panthers to three NCAA Division III playoff appearances in the past five seasons.

Fittingly, 2009-10 was also the last time the Panthers began the season 7-0, winning eight straight to begin the year and finishing 24-3 overall.

Chapman left little in doubt, jumping out to a double-digit lead over La Sierra in the first period on Monday night and cruised to the 22-point win. Five Panthers scored in double figures, led by senior F Justin Young who notched 16 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the floor and added five rebounds and a blocked shot. His brother Jordan Young added 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers off the bench.

Senior G Taylor Hamasaki and senior G Colin Zavrsnick added 15 points apiece.

Following a brief break for the Christmas holiday, Chapman returns home to host Oberlin College (Ohio) and St. Joseph's (N.Y.) on Dec. 29-30 to wrap the calendar year and its non-conference schedule.
