Four Panthers post double-digits in victory over Tigers

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University men's basketball team kept a hold on first-place in SCIAC with its 94-66 victory over Occidental College on Saturday at the Hutton Sports Center. Chapman finished the game with four athletes recording double-digits for the Panthers second win in a row.

Chapman senior G Taylor Hamasaki recorded a season-high of 29 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes of play.  

The Panthers jumped out early over the Tigers to take a 24-16 lead ten minutes into the game. The Tigers were unable to match Chapman's high-energy offense when back-to-back three-pointers by senior G Jordan Young at the 8:26 minute mark gave Chapman a 33-18 lead. The Panthers' ended the half leading 46-27.

Hamaski hit three triples in less than three minutes at the start of the second half to extend Chapman's lead 62-32. Two made free-throws and a jumper by junior Davis Dragovich would give the Panther's the biggest lead of the game of 35 points at the 4:38 minute mark to extend a Chapman lead 88-53.

The Panthers recorded 32 points from off the bench, including contributions from junior F Mike Atwater who set a career-high of 12 points. Dragovich also set a career-high of 13 points while Young matched his career-high of 17 points on Saturday.

Chapman (18-2 overall, 9-2 SCIAC), who currently sits tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for first-place in SCIAC, will play four of its last five regular season games at home. The Panthers will host fourth-place Whittier College (12-7 overall, 6-4 SCIAC) at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
