Taylor leads Panthers to triple-digit victory in home opener

Orange, Calif.– The Chapman University men's basketball team opened their season with a  102-66 victory over La Sierra University at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday night. This was the Panthers first triple-digit win since 2011.

The Panthers took an early 13-4 lead five minutes into the first half. Chapman then went on a 22-10 run with five minutes left in the first half to take a 35-15 lead. The Panthers maintained a steady high energy offense in the first half preserving a 48-31 lead.

The Panthers continued to run away way their lead at the beginning of the second half going on a 12-6 run to take a 61-37 lead at the 16 minute mark. By the nine minute mark the Panthers had a 30-plus point advantage with an 82-48 lead. At the 3:16 mark, Chapman hit triple-digits with a three-pointer by sophomore G Luke Selway to give Chapman its largest lead of the game with 48 points.

The Chapman offense was led by sophomore F James Taylor who scored a career-high of 17 points and tallied 8 rebounds for the Panthers. Sophomore Ben Cohen, freshhman G Cam Haslam and sophomore G Tyler Green all tallied 14 points a piece for the Panthers.

The Panthers outshot the Golden Eagles with an impressive 42 points from inside the paint in comparison to La Sierra's 24.

Chapman will host Willamette University on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hutton Sports Center.
