Hamlin and Haslam lead Panthers to sixth consecutive victory

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's basketball team sailed to its sixth consecutive victory with a 73-62 win over Pomona-Pitzer at the Hutton Sports Center on Wednesday night.   

Chapman scored 17 points off of turnovers, capitalizing on all 16 of the Sagehen's turnovers. The Panthers outshot Pomona 48 percent to 38 percent in field goals and drained 50 percent of their triples compared to a Sagehen 20 percent.

The Panthers opened up with a 10-2 run taking an early lead against the Sagehens in the first five minutes. However, Pomona-Pitzer rallied with an 11-3 run against Chapman to tie the game up 15 all at the 10:06 minute mark. Junior Luke Hamlin's layup at the 5:32 minute mark allowed the Panthers to make a 15-6 run to capture the lead at the end of the half.

Leading 34-25 at the beginning of the second half, the Panthers turned to sophomore James Taylor who posted all 12 of his points in the second half. Freshman Cam Haslam continued to lead the Panthers on offense with a game-high on 22 points giving the Panthers the 11 point victory, while Hamlin dominated the passing game with eight assists.

Mitchell Finkel led the Sagehens with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Gibson Farone-Collins led Pomona on the boards with a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Panthers (8-2 overall, 2-0 SCIAC) will hit the road for its next three games, beginning with La Verne on Monday, Jan 11. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
