Men's basketball falls to SUNY Oneonta

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team fell 82-69 to visiting SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday. Four Chapman players scored in double digits in the loss.

The Panthers (4-5) fell behind early and never recovered. The Red Dragons (4-4) started the game on an 11-2 run and was able to keep the lead for the rest of the game. The lead reached as much as 14 in the first half but Chapman cut the lead back into single digits on a layup from junior Cam Haslam just before halftime.

With a bit of momentum going into the break, senior Reed Nakakihara led a furious run to start the half and bring Chapman within two. In just over the first four minutes, Nakakihara scored eight of the Panthers' 12 points to cut the deficit down to 46-44.

Kevin Mackin responded for the Red Dragons with one of his five three-pointers to spark a 6-0 run that pushed the lead back to a comfortable margin. The Panthers never came closer than six points the rest of the way and Oneonta ran the lead up to as many as 17 points.

Haslam's 15 points and six assists led the Panthers but Nakakihara scored all 14 of his points in the second half. Sophomore Chandler White scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while junior Colin Ferrier contributed 13 points as well.

Mackin scored a game-high 17 points to lead four Red Dragons in double figures. Joseph Bull was a point shy of a double-double with 11 rebounds. The Red Dragons scored 42 of their points in the paint and turned 14 offensive rebounds into 10 second chance points. The Panthers were out-rebounded 42-28.

Chapman is off for the next nine days and return home on December 28 to face Pacific Lutheran at 7 p.m. for the Panthers' final nonconference game of the season.
