Men's basketball wins fourth straight with more dominant defense

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Hayden Moore opened the game with back-to-back threes and the Chapman University men's basketball team never trailed in an 84-51 win over La Sierra. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Panthers (5-1) – three of which have come by at least 30 points.

Moore went on to lead the Panthers with 20 points on the night, sinking six shots beyond the arc. Junior Chandler White added 14 points and seven rebounds while senior Colin Ferrier scored 10 while dishing out six assists.

The Panthers began the game on an 8-2 run and never let the Golden Eagles back in it. Chapman opened up an 11-point lead when Moore drained his fourth three-pointer of the night just five-and-a-half minutes into the game. La Sierra fired back but still trailed by nine heading into halftime with Chapman holding a 40-31 lead.

Defensively, the Panthers locked down the visitors in the second half. La Sierra managed just 20 points in the second half, keeping the Golden Eagles under the Panthers' Division III leading mark of 52.6 points allowed per game. The Panthers forced 14 turnovers in the second half and held La Sierra to just 38.9 percent shooting.

Chapman forced 21 turnovers in the game, converting the miscues into 35 points on the other end of the floor. Chapman outrebounded the Golden Eagles 31-24 and allowed just five offensive boards to visitors.

Chapman is back in Hutton Center after finals week for a Friday night showdown with West Coast Baptist at 7 p.m.
