Men's basketball drops game to Stags

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 75-69 in their first 2022 home game. Anthony Smith led the offensive effort for the Panthers and served up 18 points on the night going 7-12 from the field.

The Stags held the Panthers 7-0 minutes into the first half, Chapman took their first lead 8-7 when Hayden Moore sunk a shot from behind the arc. After trailing the Stags for the majority of the first, Jack Roggin tied the game 17-17 setting the Panthers up to secure a 38-30 lead heading into the half.

Chapman made it a ten point game early in the second with a Smith three pointer. The Stags slowly chipped at the deficit and tied the game 47-47 with 13 minutes left in regulation. The Stags were up by ten with seven minutes to go and sailed into victory holding the Panthers to 69 points.

Josh Angle bolstered the Stags win and contributed 30 points on the night going 6-12 from shots behind the arc. Roggin contributed 13 points to the Panthers offensive effort and went 3-4 in threes attempted. He was trailed by Moore's 11 points. Alex Rogat led the Panthers with eight rebounds, five assists and a block. Chandler White served up ten points off the bench and went 2-4 on threes.

The Panthers hit the road on Mon., Jan. 17 to face the Redlands Bulldogs at 7p.m. in another conference matchup. They return home next Saturday in another men's and women's double header to face Caltech at 2 p.m.
