Men's basketball falls to the Kingsmen

ORANGE, Calif — The Chapman Men's basketball team fell to Cal Lutheran 82-72, marking their first home loss of the season on Chapman's senior night. Before the game, the Panthers honored the seven graduating seniors, celebrating their success on the team. The loss snaps the Panthers 10 game winning streak, capping their longest winning streak of the season.

The Panthers and Kingsmen kept it a tight game throughout the half with the largest lead being 9 points in favor of the Panthers, early in the first half. The Kingsmen were still able to claw their way back and end the half tied with the Panthers 35-35.

The Panthers were led by senior guard Jack Roggin who scored 13 points in the first half on 4-9 shooting from the field. The Panthers struggled to keep the Kingsmen from grabbing offensive rebounds as they allowed 8 offensive rebounds, compared to the Panther's 0, which led to 10 more shot attempts by the Kingsmen.

The Panthers couldn't seem to get the offense running in the second half as the Panthers shot below 40% from the field as well as from the three-point line. For the Kingsmen, the offense was clicking as they shot just below 50% from the field and nearly had four of their starters score in double figures in the second half alone. The Panthers kept it close in the second half, but the Kingsmen would go on a 13-0 run that would ultimately put them in the lead for the rest of the game.

Jack Roggin led all Chapman scorers with 21 points while senior forward put up his second double-double of the year, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers fall to 19-3 on the season and play their final regular season matchup against Caltech on Monday, Feb.21., at Caltech.
