Men's basketball drops contest against Westcliff

ORANGE, Calif — Men's basketball dropped its second game of the season, this time at the hands of the Westcliff Warriors, 85-66.

Kyle Lewis and Jake Heberle led the way for the Panthers, Heberle going 6-6 and 3-3 from deep in the first half scoring all 16 points in the opening half, and Lewis, conversely, going 5-9 and 4-8 from deep in the second half netting 14 of his points in the latter frame.

The Panthers, outsized by the Warriors, found themselves down only two heading into the second half at 42-40, including a 9-2 Panther run at the end of the half led by Cruz Billings dishing out two of his six assists on the night to Jack Roggin and Heberle who connected on threes. Heberle added another three in that stretch.

Westcliff came out in the second half locking up the Panthers defensively, holding Chapman to only 26 points in the half and 29.7% shooting.

Chapman shot 37% on the evening from the field, and was out rebounded 44-27.

The Panthers fell to 1-2 on the season and Westcliff improved to 1-1.

Chapman returns to the floor next week to take on West Coast Baptist on the road, Tuesday, Nov. 22. They will be back in Hutton next Friday, Nov. 25 to take on George Fox.
