Roggin notches 1,000th collegiate point in victory

ORANGE, Calif — Men's basketball found its groove offensively thanks to Jack Roggin's 35-point night including the 1,000th point of his collegiate career, playing to the tune of a 93-85 win.

Roggin is officially at 1,001 career points, 677 in one-and-a-half seasons at Chapman and 324 while with Redlands.

He wasn't alone scoring in the double figures as fellow senior Daniel Foldes played one of his best offensive games, scoring 16 points. Blakeley Stoughton and Jake Heberle added 15 and 13 points respectively, to round out the 10+ point scorers.

The win didn't come without a challenge, however, as Occidental came out of the gates scorching hot shooting 61% from the field in the first half and knocking down 45 points in the frame. Chapman trailed 45-41 heading into the break despite shooting 55% from the field and 50% from three.

The second half was a different story, as Chapman would put on the clamps, but continue to fill up the bucket. Roggin would score 21 of his points in the second half including two electric four-point plays to swing the momentum in the Panthers' direction.

Stoughton, Foldes and Heberle would also heat up in the second half to shoot a combined 71% from the field.

Chapman would find its rhythm around the 7:40 mark in the second, going on a 15-5 run for the next six minutes to ice the game.

With the win the Panthers improve to 8-7 on the season and 2-5 in SCIAC play. Next up for them is a road contest against Caltech next Saturday, Jan. 21.
